It is important to note that not every plan covers orthodontia, so if you know that someone in your family needs braces, it would be wise to carefully scrutinize the available plans and opt for a premium option that includes at least partially coverage for orthodontic treatment.
If your plan does cover orthodontia, here are a few important notes on what to expect:
- Some dental insurance plans cover braces for minors but not for adults. (Plans with adult coverage do exist, though!)
- Your treatment might be up to 50% covered, up to the amount of your plan’s lifetime orthodontic maximum. Depending on your plan, your insurance might reduce your out-of-pocket obligation by hundreds of dollars or more.
