In the last two decades, Invisalign has become one of the most sought-after treatments. It’s not hard to see why either! With clear aligners, shorter treatment timelines, and trays designed with comfort in mind, this discreet teeth-straightening service has helped more than 8 million patients achieve their dream smiles. Although Invisalign is now a household name, many patients have lots of questions on their minds before confidently committing. If you’re in the same shoes, keep reading to learn the answers to frequently asked questions about Invisalign.

How Noticeable Is Invisalign?

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign uses clear aligners to gradually guide your teeth into their properly aligned positions. But how discreet are they really? If you care for them properly, the answer is “very!” Your teeth will look a bit shinier when you have your trays in, but not enough to detract from your look.

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

On average, Invisalign treatment takes just 12 months. Since traditional orthodontics can take 18+ months to complete, this is a considerable advancement! However, it is important to remember that there are a number of factors that play a role in your treatment timeline, like the severity of the orthodontic issue at hand and how well you follow all of your orthodontist’s instructions.

My Trays Are Turning Yellow – What Should I Do?

If your trays are turning yellow, it’s most likely because you aren’t caring for them correctly. To keep your aligners in pristine condition, there are a few best practices you should follow. To start, make sure to remove them any time you eat or drink (the only exception is water). Next, rinse them with clean, running water after you remove them and before you put them back in. Lastly, make sure to clean them daily with the right products to remove food particles, plaque, and other debris.

What Happens After Invisalign Treatment?

Once you’ve worked through your series of aligners, you’ll be given a retainer to preserve your hard-earned results. To prevent orthodontic relapse, you should wear it as much as possible for the first six months (20-22 hours a day). From there, you can gradually transition to wearing it solely at night.

Now you know the answers to a few of the most frequently asked questions about Invisalign. If you have a specific question on your mind that wasn’t covered, don’t hesitate to get in touch with your orthodontist!
